Versatility and Adaptation

MIMA HOUSING

SYSTEM

STARTING POINT

THE GRID

From the outset, the aim is for the architectural design process to be as simple and intuitive as freehand drawing on grid paper. The Mima grid provides control and orientation of axes, measurements and proportions, leaving the remaining parameters and experimentation to the future inhabitant, under the watchful eye and guidance of the responsible architect.

Detail

The subdivision of the grid gives us the guidelines for designing small components and details, such as the right size of corridors, doors, wardrobes and kitchen cabinets. It is present even in the smallest components of the house.

0.2 m

Layout

Inside the house, the grid plays a crucial role: it not only ensures the right proportions of the different spaces, but also allows a coherent distribution of the rooms.

0.4 m

Footprint

The grid defines the shape of the house, making it possible to design different forms and configurations. Houses can be L-shaped, U-shaped or any other shape that fits the plot and meets the client’s wishes.

0.8 m

Urban

At the urban scale, the grid serves as the basis for defining the footprint, respecting the legal constraints and building index of each site.

Building
System

Timber

Timber construction has advantages in terms of building time, as it is faster than the other options and has less impact on the site and its surroundings, while also being more sustainable.

Concrete

Concrete construction is used when the client wants exposed concrete walls, inside or outside the house.

Masonry

Masonry is the most economical option. It is as strong and efficient as the other options and allows the same look in terms of the facade and overall appearance of the house.

Mixed

Clients who want a mix of materials such as stone, timber and concrete can have it. Even the internal structure of the house can be mixed, for example concrete walls with a timber roof structure.

MATERIALITY
MULTIPLE OPTIONS

MATERIALITY

Concrete

Exposed concrete is a noble and sophisticated material because it is a true structural element, favoured by most architects for its sobriety and strength. It requires little maintenance and remains sober and timeless over the years.

MATERIALITY

Timber

Timber is a noble material that allows very interesting visual solutions when used as facade cladding. It makes it possible to explore different tones, colours, slat densities and orientations. Timber usually requires maintenance, unless you decide to let it age naturally and take on a silvery grey colour.

MATERIALITY

E.T.I.C.S

XPS cladding has the advantage of being both a thermal insulation system and a finish, with a wide range of colours and textures to choose from. It is a versatile and cost-effective system.

MATERIALITY

Mixed

Different materials can also be explored on the exterior facade, creating sophisticated and interesting solutions by combining timber with concrete or stone.

INTERIORS AND EXTERIORS

The project is
not just a house

The design of a house is a whole that does not end at its envelope but requires a coherent design of the exterior and interior spaces, so the Mima team ensures a carefully designed solution for the entire project. The interior of a house is what most directly shapes the daily well-being of its inhabitants. With this in mind, and to guarantee the visual and spatial quality of the whole, Mima offers guidance on the interiors and exteriors of the house from an early stage of the project.
